Suncoast Kid's Place was recently blessed by Sloan Hodges who continues his bond with his older brother, Caleb, who died at the young age of 19 in a motorcycle accident.  Sloan coordinated a day of working with his mom, dad and little brother, as well as many of his extended family and friends, building two picnic tables and a bench in memory of his brother Caleb.  The picnic tables are placed in the back of the SKP house and the bench is located in the solitude of the butterfly garden.   Sloan has left a legacy of his brother for all present and future SKP families to enjoy and to help us remember that the relationship we had with our deceased will live on.

Suncoast Kids Place provided 2 camps to grieving children and families this month.  The first camp was our 4th annual Camp Healing Hearts, a camp for families that have experienced a cancer related death of someone important.  This was a beautiful weekend retreat where many families found comfort.  The second camp was Camp Erin Tampa Bay.  This is a national camp, but this was the first time that we provided this camp to the Tampa Bay area.  It was an awesome weekend that allowed almost 60 children and teens grieve in a safe environment.  We also want to send a big shout out to the volunteers that helped out at both of theses camps, without them none of this would be possible.

November 2014

Children's Grief Awareness Day was Thursday, November 20.  Suncoast Kids Place presented a few schools on that day during the Great American Teach-in.  We educated many students on children's grief.  We also hosted our first Children's Grief Awareness Festival at the Lowry Park Bandshell.  It was an amazing event!  There was great music and awesome speakers.
