How do I get my child/teen started?
The 3 steps for getting into Suncoast Kid's Place are:
1. A caregiver/guardian calls 813-990-0216 and a staff member takes basic information about your family and the person who died. The caregiver will have a chance to ask questions about Suncoast Kid's Place or ask about more information about grieving children/teens. Your children will be placed into appropriate groups.
We will schedule your family for an orientation appointment if needed or requested.
2. An application will be provided to you and your family. This must be completed before your child/teen can attend groups.
3. If an orientation is not scheduled, your family will receive an introduction tour during to your first group.
The success of Suncoast Kid's Place is highly dependent on volunteers. The fact is, it cannot happen without them.
A volunteer facilitator’s commitment to each group is 2.5 hours two times each month. Facilitators will interact directly with the children or teens during play and talk time and will work to establish a relationship with the children that are working through the death of a significant person. Volunteer facilitators are also an important part of our caregiver groups. They assist in leading conversation amongst the caregivers who bring the children to our program. Each child/teen group has a co-occuring caregiver group.
Volunteers must be 18 years or older and be in good physical condition. We require all volunteer facilitators to go through our training prior to being in groups. This includes viewing our training videos and an interview with one of our staff. All volunteers are also required to complete an application and criminal background check.
